Denominator
Adult HIV patients enrolled in an HIVRN medical practice in the prior year, excluding patients who died or did not have a CD4 test in the year
Numerator
Subset of the denominator who had two or more outpatient visits during the year
Comments
HIVRN obtains, analyzes, and disseminates current information about the delivery of services to people with HIV infection. HIVRN currently includes 18 medical practices across the United States that treat more than 14,000 patients. Each practice collects information on their HIV patients’ clinical and demographic characteristics, medications they are prescribed, frequency of their outpatient clinic visits, and number of inpatient admissions. Each practice sends information to the data coordinating center at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, which consolidates this information into a single uniform database. Statistics in HIVnet are based on this database.
