2011 National Healthcare Quality and Disparities Reports

The National Healthcare Quality Report (NHQR) is a comprehensive national overview of quality of health care in the United States. It is organized around four dimensions of quality of care: effectiveness, patient safety, timeliness, and patient centeredness.

Based on the eight Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) Prevention Quality Indicators (PQIs) for angina, asthma, congestive heart failure, diabetes, and hypertension.� For consistency of longitudinal reporting, the modified overall composite does not include AHRQ PQI 5 for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease because it is affected by International Classification of Diseases, 9th Revision (ICD-9-CM) coding changes.

^b. Rates are adjusted by age and gender using the total U.S. resident population for 2000 as the U.S. standard population.
