The State Healthcare Quality Improvement Workshop was held to expand
participant awareness of a variety of AHRQ products, such as
State Snapshots, HCUPnet, and Preventable Hospitalization Costs: A
County-Level Mapping Tool, to stimulate thinking in the area of quality
improvement, and to share concrete examples of how the tools have
been used by decisionmakers.

Morning Plenary
The purpose of the opening welcome and plenary session is to share workshop
objectives with participating state teams, and to stimulate participant thinking
in the area of quality improvement with an overview of Arizona's quality agenda.
The goal of subsequent morning plenary sessions is to expand participant awareness
of HCUPnet and the State Snapshots Tools and to share some concrete examples
of how the tools have been used by decision makers in Utah, Maine, and Arkansas.

Track 1 participants will be encouraged to engage actively in a facilitated
dialogue, considering the potential policy questions that each of the session
tools might be used to help address. Common challenges related to data issues,
navigating political situations, and targeting the appropriate audience will
also be considered.
Track 2 participants will have an opportunity to meet in a smaller group with
expert faculty who will be able to address any outstanding questions (e.g.,
data sources, methodology) about the presented tools. The goal of the session
is to give participants adequate training with the tools such that their use
could be incorporated into future state quality improvement activities.
