Notes:
To be able to think strategically and scope a manageable PI project specific to your patient discharge process, it is important to understand that Project RED begins with patient admission and moves into the discharge planning needs during the hospital care and treatment phase.
As a PI team, you will have the opportunity to initiate most of the PI work requirements within the Plan and Do phases of the Plan, Do, Check, Act methodology or Define, Measure, and Analyze within the Lean Six Sigma methodology of Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control. During the launch phase of the project, teams will pilot test their improved process, apply Project RED best practices, and begin to establish monitoring controls for sustainability.
Project RED is a best-practice solution. If it is embedded in a broken system, then it will fail. For this reason, your team will be given an opportunity to redefine your process prior to executing Project RED's individual elements.
