Director's Update Slides from the July 2012 National Advisory Council
- AHRQ's Emergency Severity Index (ESI) triage system:
- Annual ED visits increased from 65,000 in 1998 to 100,000 in 2011.
- Used ESI to handle the increase by improving emergency department's (ED) patient flow, prevent care delays, and save costs through greater efficiency.
- Resulted in higher patient satisfaction scores and decreased ED waiting room times.
