Michigan ICUs [Intensive Care Units] Sustain Zero BSIs [Bloodstream Infections] for Up to 2 Years

  • Using Comprehensive Unit-based Safety Program (CUSP) cut central line-associated bloodstream infections to zero.
  • 60 percent of hospitals had zero bloodstream infections for 1 year; 26 percent had zero infections for 2 years.
  • Smaller hospitals sustained zero infections longer than larger ones.
  • CUSP implemented as part of Keystone ICU Project.
