  • Study Aim:
    • To assess regional variation in hospitalizations by age groups using Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP) national all-payer data for inpatient stays:
      • Does Medicare population differ from other payers?
  • Findings:
    • Regional variation pattern using Medicare data differed from the pattern using all-payer data.
    • The pattern was closer for subsets of the all-payer population at or near Medicare age.
