Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs) and AHRQ's Role in their Prevention
- MMWR, March 1, 2011:
- CLABSIs [central line-associated bloodstream infections] in ICUs [intensive care units]:
From 2001 to 2009 there was a 58% decrease in HAIs.
- CLABSIs [central line-associated bloodstream infections] in ICUs [intensive care units]:
- Current estimates for CAUTI [catheter-associated urinary tract infection], SSI [surgical site infection], VAP [ventilator-associated pneumonia] likewise lower.
- Best current overall estimates:
- At any one time, HAIs affect 1 out of every 20 hospital patients.
- HAIs are costly, deadly, and largely preventable.
