Continuous Improvement of Indicators

A simplified graphic is shown that illustrates the general process of initially developing measures, and then using information from application to inform changes to the indicators and further research. The feedback loop shows the iterative nature of the process by which information from literature reviews, initial use, and general conceptual frameworks produces promising measures, which are incorporated into the publicly available AHRQ QIs. In turn, the application of these indicators within the clinical setting, and use based on state and federal policy, generates new knowledge, which informs revisions to the indicators in the form of annual releases, and research projects in the form of published research reports.
