Wright, Melanie Institution: Duke University Project Description: There are four main aims to this research:
Career Goals: Dr. Wright is an Assistant Professor in the School of Medicine at Duke University Human Simulation and Patient Safety Center. She received her PhD in Industrial Engineering from North Carolina State University, Raleigh, and went on to hold several positions in the private and academic settings before her appointment at Duke. Dr. Wright wants to become a research team leader while advancing the field of human patient simulators in health care. Progress to Date: The grantee completed her didactic training as planned, including the Duke University Clinical Research Training Program. Dr. Wright conducted operating room observations for the purposes of understanding information use and identifying criteria for smart rule-base alarms. Two manuscripts have been submitted for publication and are currently under revision. Future Plans: Dr. Wright will complete the remaining activities associated with Aims #2 and #3 to support the development of an improved anesthesia monitor support system. She will continue developing manuscripts for publication. Highlights and Specific Accomplishments:
