Research Institute, Washington DC Project Description: The purpose of this project was to improve the quality of care in blood product transfusion practices by reducing avoidable errors and considerable variation in practice. The investigator performed a probabilistic risk assessment of blood product transfusion practices in children so that opportunities to reduce and improve safety for other low frequency, high-impact processes could be identified. Career Goals: Dr. Slonim is now the Vice President for Medical Affairs at Carilion Health System in Roanoke, VA. He received his M.D. from the New York Medicine College and did his residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Paterson, NJ. He went on to earn his M.P.H. and Dr.PH from George Washington University in Washington, DC. Dr. Slonim will continue to use education to advance our understanding of health care quality and patient safety for hospitalized patients. Progress to Date: This grant has been completed.
