Study Design
- Study sample: Fifty per cent regionally stratified national sample of rural hospitals in the U.S. with Medicare Cost Report data (N= 821), excluding hospitals that merged during the study time period.
- Time Frame: 1996-2003
- Outcome variable: Financial status as measured by Total Margin (Net income/Total revenues)
